One Direction tapped for 2013 AMAs, Katy Perry set for MTV EMAs

Katy Perry got up close and personal with One Direction at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.



The upcoming awards season, which kicks off in just a few weeks, is definitely making headlines this week. On Oct. 24, TV By the Numbers revealed that superstar boy band One Direction has been tapped to make its debut performance at the 2013 AMAs. In addition,Katy Perry is set for another awards show, the 2013 MTV EMAs. According to Reuters, Perry will perform her new song “Unconditionally” from her new album “Prism.”
In addition to landing One Direction, the AMAs also added Florida Georgia Line to its powerhouse list of performers. “Florida Georgia Line and One Direction have made an incredible impact over the past three years,” said Larry Klein, longtime producer of the American Music Awards. “We are thrilled to have them make their AMA debut performances this year.”
Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson formed One Direction in 2010 after impressing Simon Cowell on "The X Factor UK." Since then, they have amassed a loyal fan base and fame all across the globe. With two albums to date, “Up All Night” and “Take Me Home,” they have impressively sold over 32 million records worldwide and have achieved a total of 61 number ones. It's been an incredible year for One Direction, as they took home a BRIT Award, three Billboard Music Awards, six Teen Choice Awards and received a moonman for Best Song Of The Summer at the 2013 MTV VMAs.
According to Yahoo Music, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are this year's leading AMA contenders, with six nominations. Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake are next in line, with five each. Florida Georgia Line, Rihanna, and Robin Thicke each garnered four 2013 AMA nominations.
The 2013 American Music Awards airs live at 8 p.m. EST (7 p.m. CST) on Sunday, Nov. 24 on ABC. It will be broadcast in more than 160 countries around the world.
This year’s MTV EMAs is sure to be a huge TV event, especially since the line-up keeps getting hotter and hotter. In addition to Katy Perry, legendary Snoop Dog, world famous DJ/producer Afrojack, Miley Cyrus, and The Killers will also perform. Redfoo from LMFAO will MC the annual awards fest. Confirmed presenters include Will Ferrell, Iggy Azalea, Ellie Goulding, Carice van Houten from “Game of Thrones” and Colton Haynes from “Teen Wolf." Katy Perry is nominated for two MTV EMAs, including one for Best Female Artist.
Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead the 2013 MTV EMA nominations with five nods each, while Robin Thicke, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus are each up for four awards. Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Green Day, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Daft Punk, Rudimental, Icona Pop and One Direction are each nominated for three awards.
The 2013 European Music Awards will air live from Amsterdam across MTV’s global network of more than 60 channels reaching nearly 700 million households around the world. The MTV EMAs will air in the U.S. at 7 p.m. EST and PST on Sunday, Nov. 10 on MTV.
